Workplace Wellness Week: For Care Professionals

Workplace Wellness Week is an important initiative created by our Charity Partner, The Care Workers’ Charity. It’s purpose is to highlight the importance of care workers prioritising their well-being.

When talking about the ‘care sector’, the first thought that comes to mind is about caring for others. With a range of different service users who all have their own individual and unique needs, our care workers use a lot of emotional and physical energy to ensure our service users receive the highest standard of care. To ensure this high standard of care, we have to make sure we have a healthy care team, both physically and mentally.

Carer burnout is a common issue within the care sector, which is why workplace wellness is a necessity. This ensures our staff are capable of providing top quality care to all. By caring for our carers, making them feel supported and valued we can ensure this.

Workplace wellness week is to remind carers of the following:

Your Wellness Matters

Caring for our carers is extremely important. While many feel guilty or selfish for taking a break, it’s often needed. Stress and fatigue affects your ability to provide safe and effective support. By looking after your physical and emotional well-being, you can continue the hard work you do everyday.

Maintaining Health Boundaries

Boundaries in care protect our care workers and service users. By having boundaries in place we can ensure the safety of both parties. If you’re a care worker and feel unsafe or overwhelmed, please reach out to your office team. Asking for help is a sign up professionalism that we strongly encourage.

Look after your physical health

Because a lot of physical work is required in care, it’s important that you take time to rest and recover. When working, make sure you are using equipment safely and using the correct manual handling techniques. Doing so can help prevent any long term injuries.

prioritise your mental health

Care work can often take an emotional toll. Because of this, we have support services available for our staff. If you feel like you’re struggling, please reach out to our Mental Health Lead, Carol Jackson. To contact Carol please call 07751 828989 or email carol.jackson@dalecare.co.uk.

Stay connected with your team

We host frequent team meeting for our staff to give them the opportunity to catch up with others, inform them on new developments and to make sure they have the opportunity to voice any concerns or queries. If you are unable to attend for any reason, we hold an open door policy for all our offices if you ever need to chat.

Celebrate Your Achievements

At CRT we encourage service users and colleagues to reach out and express their thanks for specific care staff who have went above and beyond. Because of this, we get the opportunity to personally thank our staff for all that they do and celebrate their achievements. Recognising your achievements and hard-work naturally lifts your mood and improves you wellness.

Care Begins with our care team

Wellness is a key part of care work. As a result of looking after yourself, you are looking after those you care for.
